Description
Offered here is one of the rarest and most sought after Hindenburg KATASTROPHE (The German spelling) at Lakehurst where the great airship exploded and burned. Listed by Kaiser as his #616 it is a large cast bronze at 95mm or just about 3 and 5/8 inches. The medal has toned to a very nice patina. Looks great. Perhaps the most important medal in the airship field and seldom offered as you probably know. The obverse has full facing Captain Ernst A. Lehmann with legend around and signed by Goetz. The dramatic reverse has the HINDENBURG tethered to it's landing tower as huge flames and smoke clouds rise from it. Goetz's legend translates to "THE UNEXPLAINED CATASTROPHE AT LAKEHURST". It may be years before you get a chance at another. See the scans. More scans if needed. Paypal or your check. A check gets a 3% discount as that is what the credit card people charge me.
