    Description

This no-reserve auction is for an original copy of Pennsy’s 1962 64-page annual report to stockholders plus an original copy of an advertising booklet published by the Pennsy in 1963.
The annual reportc ontains many charts and graphs with detailed financial information plus many black-and-white photos.
It discusses the financial results for 1962 which showed a net loss of .2 million for the PRR.
    This was only the 3
    rd
year in the company’s history up until then that they operated at a loss but one of those other years was only 2 years prior.
Management’s outlook for 1963 was not very positive due to the difficulty railroads faced competing with highway, water and air transportation and stated that their proposed merger with the New York Central needs to be approved in order to be more competitive.
As it turns out that merger didn’t get completed until 1968.
Attached are scans of the front and back covers.
Clearly the artwork on the cover showing drawings of the evolution of motive power is the highlight of this entire report!
The advertising booklet measures 5” x 7½” and has 24 pages.  As a sales tool it was intended for customers and therefore presents a much more optimistic view of the status of the company.
Attached are scans of the front and back covers, the centerfold with a system map and another sample page.
This book is in like new condition with no markings or missing pages.
