+++About Iwami ware+++
"Iwami ware" is pottery produced mainly in Gotsu City, Shimane Prefecture, which is a region of high-quality clay. In the middle of the Edo period (1763), the production method was introduced from the area around Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and in the 1780s, the production method of big-sized pottery was initiated by potters in the area around Okayama Prefecture, leading to the production of "Mizugame" for storing water. Unlike today, when there was no water supply, a large pot that could store the stored water was a necessity for every household. At the end of the Edo period, the chief retainer of the domain at that time encouraged the production of ceramics, so the number of kilns increased and it became a major production area of water bottles.
