    This is a large lacquered footed bowl which maybe used during traditional Japanese Tea  Ceremony or for a very special occasion. The bowl is createda and hand carved and formed From one piece of wood, hand painted and hand lacquered. Wajima lacquered pieces go through 120 seperate individual steps to produce a one of a kind cherished treasurea.ndt.he artisans are considered National  Treasures. There is a very small surface scratch less than 1/4" long and a small what looks like bunble in the lacquer on thw bottom side. see photos.T.berea.ren.o cracks or chips. This piece is From the Meiji Period of Japan , 1868-1912. The diameter of The bowl is 24cm, height 8cm and diameter of foot is 10cm. The sheen is very good for its age and as can be seen in the photos. It was very  hard to be able to photograph without the glare. Pieces of this quality are highly sought after in Japan used in presentation for displaying and presenting sweets or fruit to guests. Wajima Lacquer comes from the small town of Wajima Japan in Ishikawa Prefecture and has been produced in the same manner as when first produced in the 16th  century completely produced by hand. The piece is signed on the front inside the bowl. This is not usually seen unless it's considered a piece that is exquisite.
