Confederate Civil War Shell Jacket, U.S. Size. Sm/Med, 36-37" . This is one of our hand made Civil War shell jackets. The jacket was reverse constructed from an original in our local museum. Meaning I got our hands on an original and measured, Photo'd and documented everything then proceeded to reconstruct it to the exact specifications as the original. I used economy grade materials in order to keep the price down. That means modern wool in place of our usual vintage wool and modern cotton fabric instead of the homespun cotton that we usually use. It is made out of a heather grey wool with a sky blue wool forming the cuffs and collar of the jacket. The inside is made out of a black cotton fabric with on inside pocket. Both the sleeves are lined in a white cotton fabric. The fabrics are a thinner weight to assist in keeping one cool in the summer heat since that is when most reenactments and living history events take place. The Jacket is in the rank of Captain and has 6 vintage metallic woven rank stripes sewn onto the outsides of the collar. 3 on each side. This style of uniform was worn by the 54th Georgia Infantry and examples of it in it original glory can be found in the publication, "Echo's of Glory, Arm & Equipment of the Confederacy. The cut of this jacket is made to be worn with the top button buttoned and the rest left open and over the equipment or it can be fully buttoned up and the equipment worn over it using a sash of sorts. You can also go without the sash but who doesn't like a good sash!! The buttons on the jacket are made of pewter in a dish style. Please ask any and every question you may have.
