    Description

Confederate Shell Jacket Georgia state jacket militia Authentic Campaigner Civil War Ben Tart gray on brown Jean New, sz 40. Condition is excellent. Worn once at Brauner's Farm NPS living history some years back.
This is an extensively hand-sewn garment made by an authentic reenactor member of the Armory Guards of Georgia.  Handsewn buttonholes. The fabric used is Ben Tart's excellent gray on brown wool/cotton jean cloth and lined in vintage slub sheeting.
The jacket is cut from a pattern derived from the Devere tailor system of 1866; therefore the jacket is cut for a waist trimmer than the chest and higher armscyes - just like originals. The jacket is intended to represent the type of militia style jackets used by Georgia troops early in the war, or a cadet jacket, or a commutation jacket. The black facings are of worsted wool broadcloth. The jacket lining and outer shell are topstitched with a period sewing machine with thicker than modern thread. The buttons are Georgia state seal buttons. You can replace them with anything from imported English gilt brass, state or military academy seals, to domestic wooden buttons from Missouri Boot and Shoe.
I don't really care to sell this museum quality jacket but my wallet is feeling light. Buy with confidence. Return within 30 days if you are not satisfied.
