    Description

We have on hand a pair of
    UNASSEMBLED
sky blue wool Schuylkill Arsenal pattern trousers that will be completed to the buyers size specifications upon sale. These are not the mounted style trousers. Upon completion these trousers will featured the crimson (not red, not maroon but regulation crimson color) side seam striping for
    HOSPITAL STEWARD
. This striping will be sewn on BY HAND
    over
the pocket opening as was the most common method of the period (based on original relic NCO trousers as well as period photos of the same).
These trousers measure in with a
    48" waist.
    However
, WE CAN ALTER THESE TO THE BUYERS PERSONAL SIZE SPECIFICATIONS AND WILL FINISH ASSEMBLY UPON SALE. The Buy-It-Now price is for one fully assembled ready-to-wear pair of hospital steward striped trousers right out of the box. Upon sale we will contact the buyer to get the three measurements we will need to make the trousers.
    Sorry,
    these trousers are
    not
available for sale in their current state (meaning just cut out, not finished). However, full return / refund privileges are in place in the event there are any fitting issues when the buyer receives the finished product.
We recently finished a pair of hospital steward trousers for a buyer and the photos above show what these trousers look like
    WHEN COMPLETED
    .
These trousers will be made to “Standard Grade” specifications (
    principally machine sewn but with
    hand sewn button holes
    and some assorted hand tacking
) and feature side seam pockets, a Schuylkill Arsenal pattern right side watch pocket, rear tie-back cord, white cotton drill pockets and all facings plus paperbacked tin buttons - seven 3/4” on the waistband and five 1/2” in the fly. These trousers are correctly cut with a high waist, tapered waistband and a high rise back. Cuffs are rolled and machine hemmed with the side seam split in place. The crimson tape used to stripe these trousers is a
    cotton
    (not wool) herringbone twill.
The wool used in these trousers is a blend of 85% wool and 15% synthetic fiber.
We have had some folks ask us if this is former Woolrich Mills fabric but no, it isn’t.
Still, it's a solid 21 oz tightly woven wool with excellent durability. We’ve used this wool (along with Woolrich fabric) for a number of years with excellent wear results in the field; plus it has a good sky blue color for Federal trousers. Free swatches are available if you'd like to see this wool before making any purchase. Just message me with your name and mailing address and I’ll get one in the mail.
    ASSEMBLY TIME:
We do need to mention that since we are
    VERY busy
in the shop we will require
    at least thirty days
to be able to get to and then assemble the trousers. The clock starts ticking when the trousers are purchased and paid for. We have accounted for this with a thirty day (working days - not counting weekends) handling time (see DELIVERY at the top of this auction page). Any questions concerning this please message me
    BEFORE
    you buy
    . Thanks!

    A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
Started sewing/reenacting in 1968. Went full time into the repro uniform business in '75 and retired from full time manufacturing (Stony Brook Company) in 2020. I still keep a hand in the trade though and use eBay as my selling venue. :-)
