    Description

For sale is an Antique Meiji Era Japanese Wooden teacup with a lid. The teacup has a thick lacquer design of a bird on branches with Mother of Pearl accents on the lid. The inside is of the lid is decorated with a scene of Mt Fuji in the traditional red color. The cup is very old and has a slight oval shape. This is the result of wood movement and can only be seen with 100-year-old antiques. I would date it to 1850-1870. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. There are some minor spots of lacquer loss. The bowl is 4-3/8" in diameter and 2-1/2" tall. The top or lid is 4-1/8" in diameter and 1-3/8" tall. This type of lacquer decoration was very time-consuming, dangerous, and only done by the best craftsman.

This business was born out of necessity during the recession of 2008. It started has a hobby and continued to grow into a full-time business. After retiring from the military, I worked as an artist and designer in the furniture industry. I use my experience as a showroom designer to find and buy items for the southern country home. Some of my items are consignment pieces where I list for Mountain Folk who are not familiar with computers.
