Description

"Silver San Juan: The Rio Grande Southern" is Mal Ferrell's epic pictorial history of this fabled Colorado narrow gauge railroad with lots of b/w photos, equipment drawings and equipment rosters.  With 500 photographs, seven maps and seven full page color plates, painted especially for this book by Howard Fogg, Richard Ward, Mike Pearsall and Philip Ronfor. Two folded items in rear pocket are in like-new condition: Ernie Robart's highly detailed map of "Rio Grande Southern Railroad 1890-1953" & a reprinted "The Rio Grande Southern Railroad Company Employes' Time Table" of June 18, 1911.   There is also a chapter on Otto Mears' passes.  If you are an RGS follower, this is the book to get!  This massive 643-page quarto sized hardcover book was published in 1973 by Pruett Publishing and this is a stated first edition copy.  It is not the deluxe, signed edition. The book is in good condition with no damage - no dog-eared pages, no markings and no jammed corners.  The dust jacket is missing.  There is a library's embossed stamp on the title page (see Photo #2), but no other library markings.  This is not a collector's copy, but is a perfectly fine reading and reference copy.
The photos are of this very book.  This book will be packed and shipped in our bulletproof manner. All proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad for their restoration and maintenance projects.  Be sure to see our photo collections at NGTrainPics.PhotoShelter.com.
