Author Greg Stout takes the reader on a pictorial review of the Southern's name trains, their consists, motive power and passenger fleet from the 1940s through Amtrak in 1979. The narrative begins with the "Silver Trains" of 1941-1960 followed by the decline of service in the decade of the 60s as passenger traffic dwindled. An attempt was made to rejuvenate service in its last years but Amtrak was the destination. This is a 128-page, color hardcover printed on gloss paper with a separate dust jacket.
