Description
The Terminal Railroad Historical Society of St. Louis produces a superb annual magazine with finely researched articles, usually centered around a main story, which are fully illustrated with color and b&w images, ephemera, track plans, diagrams, menus, and fold-out tip-ins. Issue 76, Summer 2016, provides well over 100 pages on the history and operations of the Alton & Southern, St. Louis's "other switching railroad." Once owned by ALCOA, the A&S gained its independence, expanded its customer base, and dieselized. Included in this issue are the origins of Gateway Yard before the hump was added, the St. Louis & Ohio River Railroad, the Caseyville Railway Company, and a section on commuter trains to Creve Couer Lake.
