    Description

    Now here’s a consigned item we have to call an “oldie but a goldie”:  a
    size 40
    dark blue wool-on-white cotton satinette
    vest made by Joe Covais (
    a very well known and respected uniform maker in the 1980’s)
    . Joe did business under the trade name New Columbia. This vest has seen service over the years but remains in solid serviceable condition. Here are the details:
    As mentioned, made from a dark blue wool-on-white cotton satinette fabric (see photo note below) with a dark blue & dark tan striped linsey-woolsey backing and front breast panel linings.  Both fabrics were loomed by Rabbit Goody of Thistle Hill Weavers (
    more famous folks :-)
    . The inside back lining is made from unbleached muslin. There are number of tiny areas where the wool has worn away showing some of the white cotton satinette fibers underneath. A couple of these tiny areas may (??) be mothing as this vest has been in storage a while. Please see the photos showing this – and we have used a dime to give a size perspective (sorry, dime not included :-). The striped linsey-woolsey pieces are in very good condition w/ no physical problems. The inside muslin back liner is in good physical shape BUT has significant areas of discoloration from age and wear.  The majority of these stains or marks are from sweat and the suspenders (adjustment buckles & leather ends).
    This vest is principally machine sewn but does have some areas of hand sewing including hand sewn buttonholes.
    Rounding out this vest are nine small U.S. infantry officer “I” buttons (
    although you do not have to be an infantry officer to wear this vest :-)
    , two lower front vest pockets,  a small standing collar and two rear wool adjustment belts w/ a dark steel two-tine buckle for adjustment.

    (not counting the 4” gap between collar ends)
    FRONT LENGTH:  17”
    BACK LENGTH:  20”

    (fits up to a 38” waist comfortably)
    ARMPIT TO ARMPIT:  22”
    (not an official point of measuring in tailoring but a lot of guys ask for it).
