"IT HAPPENED IN VAUGHN--STORIES ABOUT A NEW MEXICO RAILROAD TOWN" is a hard-to-find, self-published history of Vaughn, New Mexico in southwestern Guadalupe County. In 1901, the El Paso & Rock Island Railroad began building a railroad through the area and the community of Vaughn was born. The Santa Fe Railroad then began building it's Belen Cut Off through the area. The Belen Cutoff entered Vaughn in 1905. The Santa Fe built it's railroad facilities--a depot, reading room, and Harvey House Restaurant--about a mile east of Vaughn and East Vaughn was born. The two communities merged into one Vaughn in 1920. Here is a TON of VERY RARE history gleaned from residents, old newspapers and state archives. VERY HARD TO FIND! SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS FOR SAMPLE PAGES.Book is softback published in 2015. It is SELF-PUBLISHED, is in NEAR MINT CONDITION, measures 8 1/2" x 11" and contains 145 pages with numerous photographs and copies of documents throughout.
