Description
Vintage medical instruments, “The Awful Taste Spoon”. Condition is "Used”.This is the information I could find online.
This is a wood plaque from the company Wampole Laboratories. THE AWFUL TASTE SPOON Once Used For Bitter Medicines, Made Obsolete For Iodine Preparations By ORGANIDIN (Iodinated Glycerol). The Iodine Expectorant That Tastes Almost As Good As It Works. Wampole Laboratories Stamford, CT. 06904. The spoon has ware to it, see photos for details.
I believe the original spoon was created in 1853. The covered spoon was created to cover the initial "AWFUL" smell and taste of iodine liquids when placed in a patient's mouth. This plaque by Wampole Labs was a promotional item for Organidin, a product intended to remove the need for this spoon. I believe this was made in the 1960‘s. Sticker on the back says made in Spain.
