Description
Offered is the vintage 25-page typewritten manuscript "History of the Baltimore Presbyterian Hospitality House", written by Ethlyn Johnston Claus. The manuscript details the good work done by this haven for World War II servicemen and servicewomen passing through Baltimore. The house was open from November, 1943 through May, 1947, with over 400,000 men and women attending during that time. I don't know when this was typed-obviously after May, 1947, but I would guess not too long after. This is apparently a rare find; at the time of original listing I could not find any published versions or other typewritten manuscripts of this work anywhere and no other items on eBay from the Baltimore location, although there were a few postcards of Hospitality Houses in other locations. The manuscript is approx. 11" x 8 1/2" and is in good condition, with no tears or holes except for the hole in each page where the brad goes through that holds the pages together. The pages have yellowed but the typewritten text is easily readable. There are some wrinkles in the pages. There is a handwritten name on the first page.
