War Ration Book No. 3 distributed during World War II, issued in 1943 to a 35-year-old self-described “housewife” in Silver Spring, Maryland.
According to the University of Delaware Department of History, War Ration Book No. 3 was distributed May 20, 1943, with eight pages of stamps to use on food and other commodities. It became valid in September 1943.
There were four pages for meat rationing and four pages of stamps for a clothing rationing program that was never implemented. Some clothing stamps were eventually accepted for shoe purchases.
Not surprisingly, this booklet is absent the meat rationing pages, but of the book’s other four pages of stamps -- 48 stamps on each page -- there are only four missing.
Each page has a different image for its stamps -- one is an anti-aircraft gun, one is a tank, one is a naval aircraft carrier, and one is a flying fighter plane (if it’s actually a bomber, please correct me).
Booklet measures approximately 5 ¾” x 4 ¼”.
Items are stored in a smoke-free environment.
Any condition assigned to listed items is based on my amateur, albeit conservative, opinion, so please examine available images closely and come to your own conclusion.
Combined shipping available on multiple purchases upon request. That means that if an order contains at least one item with a shipping charge, although other items in the order are listed with free shipping, there will be a charge--the lowest possible given the combined items.
On listings where multiple copies of the same item are listed, labels associated with a color such as "Item Name-Yellow” or “Item Name-Purple" refer only to the color of the background used for identification purposes.
