    Item Description :
    This is a Japanese hand-shaped pottery Sake cup of Tanba Ware, which is made
    by a famous potter, Masafumi Onishi (1980-)
    This Sake cup was made with a lot of firewoods in his NOBORI-gama (Climbing kiln) for continuous 5 days, and a part of the surface is covered with natural glaze created with ash.
    The original wooden storage box with the signature of the potter and his profile are also included.
    (About Masafumi Onishi)
    Mr. Onishi is the 4th generation potter in his famikly and is building up a great reputation through his modern breaking explorations and reinterpretations of traditional and functional desingns at his family's kiln, Tanbun-gama.
    Masafumi Onishi still relies on the Nobori-gama (Climbling kiln) to fire much of his works in the traditional manner.
    (About Tanba ware)
    Tanba Ware originated approximately 800 years ago and has played an essential role in people's daily lives, as well as becoming sought after as artwork in recent years. Its distinguishing feature is its simplicity and absence of decorative flourishes. It consists mainly of tableware made for daily use, made with a view to being a part of daily life.
    Practical knowledge about daily life was drawn on in making Tanba-yaki pottery, so that the finished product is easy to use, and to the touch imparts a sense of the warmth of the earth and of the people.
